on the market and culture. If we look to countries such as Germany pay is often based on collective agreements where it is argued that all employees doing the same
job should be paid the same amount. This is seen as equitable and fair on both employee and employer. However, in markets such as the UK take a different approach.
In the UK payment systems have become more individual. We can argue that it has been popularised by the employers with calls
of the advantages of inequality. The ability for each individual to be paid what they are worth, and rewarded for additional effort and the increased flexibility in the employment contract.
The ideal is that the harder you work the more you will be rewarded. This argued as a fairer way of rewarding individuals. After all why should one man who
puts in 110% effort be paid the same as a man who is only just achieving the minimum standards required to retain his job. However, there are many issues other
than pay where an employee may need to make their voice heard. This increased use of individually negotiated pay may be seen
as related to the firm types as it has be occurring at a higher level in the private sector than the public sector, indicating the increased pressures of competition requiring
