difficult it would be to lose both. That is what happens in Mabel Esther Allans book called A Lovely Tomorrow. This English tale is centered around a girl named Frue
who, on New Years Eve in 1941, loses both of her parents to a V2 rocket. It is an unlikely tale for a child or teenager growing up in contemporary
times, but war was a fact of life in the time frame in which this novel unfolds. The time period is significant. It was during the Second World War that
this story of innocence and innocence lost takes place. Frue is just an ordinary girl, but when she becomes an orphan, her life changes forever. In fact, Frue does not
return to London until 1945. She lives with an Aunt in the country during the time period between New Years Eve in 1941 and 1945 when she returns to London
again. Of course this is a coming of age tale as Frue is of course very young when the loss occurs and by the time the book ends, she is
practically a woman. Major themes of this work are obviously war, and life and death. War is something that is part of the background. It is not as if
Frue picks up a gun and joins the military. Rather, this girl goes from London, a place where she is familiar, to a place in the country. She is raised
by her aunt and there are tensions. Frue must find her place in life and in the life of another. While primary thematic elements involve interpersonal conflict, that rests to
