Introduction Many song lyrics seem to have very similar content, or themes. For example, there are many songs about lovers leaving, being alone, or about being in love. While there
are many other different themes to song lyrics it seems that love is generally one of the most traditional themes, whether it be love experienced or love lost. The following
paper compares and contrasts two songs about love and loneliness. They are All By Myself by Eric Carmen and All Out of Love by Air Supply. All By
Myself and All Out of Love All Out of Love is very much a love song about love that is seemingly lost as the singer states how they are, "Thinking
of you till it hurts" (Air Supply). All By Myself is more of a song about the possibility that the singer may want love because they have long been alone:
"Some times I feel so insecure/ And love so distant and obscure/ Remains the cure" (Carmen). As such they are both about love but they are also very different in
relationship to how they are addressing love. Another similarity is that they are both songs that deal with being alone. In All Out of Love the singer states, "I
want you to come back and carry me home/ Away from this long lonely nights" (Air Supply). This is a song about being lonely and lost because the lover is
