in the study of mathematics, one begins to study more abstract algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric principles, the use of which is not as immediately obvious as the basic arithmetic one
learns early on. Certainly, the use of addition and subtraction in everyday life is a given, but for more complicated concepts, especially those which utilize variables, such as rational expressions,
quadratic equations, and radical expressions, it can be incredibly difficult to discern where the utility lies. The conception that these aspects of math are without value to anyone outside of
professional mathematicians is false, however. By looking past the formulas and viewing these kinds of problems in a realistic context that exposes their actual purpose, it becomes easier to understand
how they can be applied to the average persons life. This paper will explore the application of advance algebraic principles to the budgeting and financial sustainability of the average everyday
college student. This paragraph helps the student introduce the context in which the problems are to be solved. In order to gain a full and complete understanding of how these
math concepts apply to budgeting, it is first necessary to gain some kind of realistic concept for the budgeting concerns. In this case, one might look at the case example
of an average University of Phoenix student, or indeed any student at any of the newer accredited online learning institutions. For these students, budgeting is a paramount concern; even though
they dont have to contend with the costs of housing or food on campus, they must often manage the financial realities of sustaining their own life while partaking in classes
online. As for the classes themselves, students tend to take an average of nine classes per year, or between four and five each semester, with an average cost of $1300.00
