man who apparently engaged in all the activities he expected his men to engage in and was a man of honor and integrity. With that in mind the following paper
examines the political life and ideals of Alexander the Great. Alexander the Great Politically it appears as though Alexander essentially became
involved in the same policies as his father, Philip. Philip was incredibly successful at bringing many people together and as one author notes, "He appears to have thought of himself,
however, as a deliverer, rescuing the Greeks from their suicidal rivalries, and as a champion of Hellenism against barbarism" (Rempel). Towards the end of his life "He convoked assemblies at
the Isthmus of Corinth which elected him leader of a new Pan-Hellenic, anti-Persian alliance with mandate to undertake at least a partial conquest of the Persian empire" (Rempel).
When Philip was killed Alexander came into power at the age of 20 and he "succeeded him in both position and aspiration" (Rempel). Within two
years he had already established his position in Greece and Macedonia and began to earnestly pursue his fathers plans of crusading into Persia (Rempel). Essentially Alexander was determined to bring
all people under one roof, so to speak. It was not necessarily a desire to destroy Persia but rather to bring it under a common rule.
