major producer of aluminium, both semi fabricated and finished as well as alumina (Alcoa, 2003). The company has activities in a range of areas in the value chain, from
mining, refining smelting and fabricating to recycling and the technology that is involved at all stages. The markets that are sold to are also wide ranging. The revenue of $20.3
billion comes form a range of sectors, automotive, aerospace and commercial transportation sectors take some of the goods. But the majority of sales come from either packaging and consumers
goods, which accounted for $5 billion in 2002 and 2001, and 4.9 billion in 2000, rising from only $3.9 billion in 1998, or the aluminium and Alumina market, which accounted
for $4.9 billion in 2002, $5.4 billion in 2001, $5.8 in 2000, $4 billion and $3.8 billion in 19999 and 1998 respectively (Alcoa, 2003). The two main types of product
