Essay / Research Paper Abstract

The Plague by Albert Camus is not generally considered as a political treatise but, rather, as a philosophical work on the subject of ethics. Camus believes that the evils that lie in wait for the unsuspecting can be battled through knowledge and the ability to learn from the mistakes of history. This 5 page critique argues that the reactions of most when confronted by something as insidious and seemingly natural as the plague and, or, fascism is fear; and fear tends to make followers out of people. The denial that evolves from fear assists those seeking power to intimidate and control. No additional sources are listed.
