Fast forward to today and people are routinely searched when going to concerts, boarding planes or even going to a baseball game. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, security--particularly at airports--has been enhanced significantly. While many feel a sense of comfort that the nation is doing something to protect them, there is the other side of the story, which is that privacy is being compromised. Should the police and airline security personnel be allowed to search peoples clothing, belongings and even the physical body just because there is some suspicion? Should the police be allowed to do so as part of a random search? Certainly, rights are being compromised as security is enhanced. The idea of the illegal search and seizure is something brought up in many legal cases. However, the norm is that police officers have the right to pursue an individual and search them only if there is cause. Perhaps he saw someone putting drugs in their pocket or stealing something at the store. A reasonable belief that something is awry can requisite a search. Also, in some cases, searches are allowed on a routine basis. Since 9/11 many searches have been conducted at airports around the world, and while there are complaints about the more intimate searches, questions do arise. Are these searches constitutional?
