statement is to point out that it is not only the increased security measures at airports across the world that delays flights. In 2005, Fernandez reported that after three
years of better service, the three major airports for New York, La Guardia, John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International, passengers would be faced with increasingly more delays. The
problem was simply airlines increasing flights in already highly congested terminals (Fernandez, 2005). It has to do with revenue (Fernandez, 2005). Between January and October 2005, only 76 percent of
flights into JFK were on time compared to 80 percent the year before (Fernandez, 2005). During that same time period, 82 percent of flights out of La Guardia left on
time (Fernandez, 2005). It isnt surprising considering the fact that airlines increased traffic in and out of the three major airports in that region (Fernandez, 2005). In 2005, airlines
increased their traffic by 6.7 percent to 1.13 million flights (Fernandez, 2005). JetBlue is one of the airlines driving growth in and out of JFK; this airline alone increased their
number of daily flights by one-third to 100 and it plans to raise that daily number to 250 within two years (Fernandez, 2005). Other airlines are trying to keep up;
American Airlines increased their flights by 18 percent to 270 flights daily (Fernandez, 2005). The average on-time arrivals at all major airports in the U.S. is between 70 and 75
percent (Howarth and OToole, 2005). Delays are not unique to the United States; airport delays are seen at most, if not all major airports in the world. Howarth and
OToole (2005) reported that data from Europe suggests on-time arrivals between 75 and 85 percent but that figure is very deceptive. It is a total average. The fact is that
