The battle between attorneys and physicians and how medical malpractice lawsuits are played out in courtrooms continues to be a source of controversy. By definition,
medical malpractice is basically when a health care provider neglects his or her patient by either omitting or deviating from accepted standards of practice in the physicians field. Another case
of medical malpractice is when the doctor causes harm or death to a patient because of the physicians actions or decisions. Patients can sue for medical malpractice for a variety
of reasons, so physicians must arm themselves with professional liability insurance to protect themselves and offset the risks from these claims. When these cases go to trial, the attorneys are
obviously seeking exorbitant jury awards because they feel their clients should be entitled to it. Obviously, they do not win all the cases, but these settlements are causing many physicians
to go out of practice or move out of state with a more favorable tort system. In addition, it is causing their medical malpractice insurance premiums to skyrocket, making it
even more difficult to continue practicing in their own community. Plus, they are beginning to question their methods and the way they go about proscribing medications because they are worried
