concise description of the Air Force mission and what it takes to accomplish that mission. These values influence the entirety of the Air Force, including all ranks and all personnel,
in all of their actions. This discussion will examine how these values impact the topic of tool accountability and how this demonstrates the pervasiveness and significance of Air Force values
in the everyday operations of this service. However, a closer examination of Air Force core values informs the context of this examination. Integrity is a "character trait," which can
be loosely defined as the "willingness to do what is right even when no one is looking" ("United States"). It is the "moral compass-the inner voice; the voice of self-control"
upon which efficient operation of the military depends ("United States"). Integrity is also associated with certain moral traits that are indispensable to military personnel, such as, courage, honesty, responsibility, accountability,
justice and openness ("United States"). The moral trait of accountability is particularly relevant to the issue of tool control. Accountability refers to the fact that no individual who possess integrity
ever tries to avoid the responsibility of error or tries to shift blame or take the credit for the actions of others ("United States"). Tool control is an extremely
significant issue within the military, as a tool "left in the engine of an aircraft could damage the engine and perhaps the whole plane," endangering not only valuable military property,
but also endangering, possibly costing, lives ("US Patent"). Often, there are time constraints for Technical Services personnel in terms of refueling and rearming aircraft within the context of military
