for a perfect and powerful nights entertainment. ` In particular, the talents of Indra Thomas, who sang the role of Aida, made viewing this production an extraordinary experience. Ms. Thomas
virtuoso voice is incredible and she also has the exotic beauty that is perfectly suited to the role of Aida, as she was well suited to the ancient Egyptian world
of the Nile. During the tomb scene, where she sees "O Terra Addio," it was incredibly moving and most of the audience was in tears. Listening to Verdis score,
it is easy to see why his operas are considered to be the "epitome of dramatic energy and passion" (Machlis 145). Opera fans feel that this art form is the
perfect amalgamation of drama and pageantry, with the music providing a "dramatic situation with shattering expressiveness" (Machlis 145) and Verdis "Aida" is the quintessential example of this description. Viewing this
production was rather like watching a beautiful painting come to life. The stirring libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoi added enormously to all of the features that are adored by opera
buffs, that is, "picturesque scenery, ballets, processionals and mass scenes," which is all presented within the context of the fabulous sets and costuming that recreated the ancient Egyptian world (Machlis
146). The plot of "Aida" is a class love triangle, Aida, an enslaved Ethiopian princess, serves an Egyptian princess, Amneris. Both women love Radames, an Egyptian general who
