being discriminated against in their field of employment. The following paper examines an article pertaining to age discrimination with a focus on discrimination of people in their 40s. the article
being examined is Vince Winkels 2007 article titled Age Discrimination Gets Younger. Age Discrimination of People in Their 40s As mentioned in the introduction, age discrimination is becoming
a concern of many as there are many individuals who are considered baby boomers and they are entering, or have entered, the traditional age of retirement. As the author notes,
"Not long ago, age discrimination was mostly associated with those getting close to retirement. But as the economy changes and the Baby Boomer generation ages -- the youngest Boomers turned
40 in 2004 -- age discrimination is affecting more workers who are nowhere near the end of their careers" (Winkel, 2007). The article points to the fact that many
workers feel they are really only beginning to reach their ability as workers when they hit their 40s perhaps because they are older, wiser, and far more experienced and are
likely not distracted by things that distracted them in their 20s or even 30s. It also indicates that in society it almost feels as though, and appears as though, age
discrimination is perfectly acceptable and thus when some people are let go, because of their age, they may not even be aware of why they have been let go (Winkel,
