that people should be allowed to marry anyone they wish and many others argue that it goes against nature and society. Considering that, by all appearances, the majority of the
nation does not want to allow for same sex marriages it seems natural that they should be denied. And, if they are denied then homosexuals should not be allowed to
adopt either. The following paper argues against same sex marriage and adoption for same sex couples. Against Same Sex Marriage In looking at why same sex marriages should
not be allowed there are clearly the obvious reasons: "It offends everything religion stands for" and "Marriage is a sacred institution" that has always belonged to heterosexuals (Bidstrup, 2009). These
are obvious, and important, issues, especially considering that the nation was founded on Christian ideals. While many people may like to dismiss these facts, the truth is otherwise and
the majority of the population are against same sex marriages for these very simple, yet powerful, reasons. Considering that most people in the United States are against same sex
marriage indicates, and supports the fact, that the American culture is one that relies heavily on such foundations. One author notes that, "Culture is what marks us as human; it
is what distinguishes us and allows us to distinguish ourselves from other animals and, in the future, from intelligent machines" (Somerville, 2003). Our culture is based on certain laws, written
and unwritten, and as long as the majority believes the culture is a particular way then that is the culture. The culture of the United States clearly believes that same
