will continue to do so. AFTERMATH OF WORLD WAR II World War II servicemen re-establishing themselves back into civilian life had a tough go of it. Not only
were they shell shocked from the atrocities of war, but also they returned home without so much as the proper training for anything more than a minimum wage job.
The government was quick to recognize that this equation spelled trouble for the veterans who had the desire to better themselves scholastically yet had spent that last while fighting a
war, not learning a trade or saving money for school. In light of how World War I veterans were met with recession, unemployment and homelessness, The Servicemens Readjustment Act of
1944 was set in place to avoid the same scenario for the twice as many vets returning from World War II. It was not difficult to understand the concept
of postwar survival -- that a person who learns a trade and can take care of himself is not only an asset to his own family but to his community,
as well. This was the idea behind the Act: to provide veterans with the education they needed to ascertain the best position possible. As startup incentive, the GI Bill
of the mid-to-late 1940s gave up to five hundred dollars per veteran for tuition and additional costs, which was quite generous back in those days. Along with that,
