The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which
develops into acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is spreading,
literally unchecked, in sub-Saharan Africa. This 5 page paper argues that the
need for solutions, the use of segregation or the quarantine of those with the

grow until the description of pandemic seems mild. The death and economic repercussions from AIDS has literally affected all corners of the globe. Thesis: The segregation of
people with AIDS in Africa is the best solution to halting and, perhaps, reversing the trend of increased cases. Premises: 1. The virus is spreading, literally unchecked, in sub-Saharan Africa.
At the end of the millennium, 21.8 million people had died from the disease. Approximately one percent of the worlds adult population was infected at the time, with
the numbers increasing in most parts of the world. Africa remains the hardest hit, accounting for seventy percent of those infected and seventy five percent of the dead (Anonymous,
2000, Stalking The Sub-Sahara). Premises: 2. Quarantine would allow for the burden of care to be taken from the family and placed on the state and world relief
organization. The Africans that are infected are in need of access to the lifesaving antiretroviral therapy. Because of a number of factors, such as stigmatization and poverty, many
of those in need are not able to gain access. In addition to the supervised dispersal of medications, an ongoing educational program would be instituted where individuals can learn
to alter their behavior as well as become educators themselves of a comprehensive, culturally appropriate information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign (Anonymous, 2001, African News Service). The program
