that has been home to its own clash of cultures for most of the past five decades." Indeed, this is simply one piece of fiction, but it is indicative of
a larger problem. Its setting is attached to a controversial region. That is, the Sudan is fraught with problems, and this is largely due to a situation where the North
is built up but the South is neglected. Other regions have succumb to similar situations where a government will only pay attention to one part of the country and
not the other. In essence, this North-South dichotomy is not unique. Sometimes, religious conflicts enter the picture and at other times, natural resources divide regions. For Sudan, the problem is
complicated. Sudan is predominately black with 52% of the populous and an Arab population comprising 39% ("Sudan: CIA"). The rest of the population is made up of foreigners,
Beja and other peoples ("Sudan: CIA" ). It is predominately Muslim, but the Sunni Muslim is the rule at 70%; they live primarily in the north part of the
country ("Sudan: CIA"). Christians, who live mostly in the south and in Khartoum only make up 5% of the total population ("Sudan: CIA"). The rest rely on indigenous beliefs ("Sudan:
CIA"). The age structure is quite interesting and helps to shed light on the way in which the nation is structured. It is young. Between
