A number of factors are at play in Africa which make it unlikely that it will shape
or influence to any great degree international affairs of the twenty-first century. The political division of the continent, however, serves as the most obvious deterrent to Africa becoming internationally
influential. In more politically influential countries international alliances are at play which complement the power of all countries. In Africa this simply is not the case. Because
of this lack of alliance between the African nations Africa will remain a secondary play on the international scene. Even more disturbingly, however, Africa will undoubtedly become even more
riddled with internal strife and poverty than she has been in previous generations. International alliances are a necessary component of an overall world
plan for peace. Various countries have had alliances with other countries in place for generations. Other alliances are relatively new in their origin. Far from being a
component of our pasts, however, alliances between countries serve as effective structures to ensure regional peace and stability today and indeed into our future. Many of the most important
alliances which exist today date back to the end of World War II. While they have undergone a series of changes, these alliances have been a critical factor in
maintaining peace for those countries who have committed to them. In "Africa and the New World Order" author Julius Omozuanvbo Ihonvbere recognizes the
