has relevance today because it can enhance the life of any business. The world is diverse. Having a corporation that is centered on middle aged white men is detrimental because the thinkers cannot serve the needs of a diverse society. Simply stated, the new consumer is not atypical. The new consumer is not the typical consumer of earlier decades. There are numerous markets and the people who run organizations, and who work for them, should represent the mainstream. The mainstream is no longer what used to be considered the majority. Thus, most every organization should entertain the possibility of fostering an effective affirmative action program. How might one go about creating an affirmative action program? A human resource manager of any company must keep in mind government regulations and protocols as well as suggestions made from outside of the organizations. This topic is timely and significant. Although the history of affirmative action is vast, the current climate is conducive to the acknowledgement of such endeavors. After all, while things have progressed a great deal since the 1960s when affirmative action was a burning issue, the problem of prejudice has not gone away. Prejudice lingers and some believe that this too is a reason for the continuance of such programs. The issue is also significant again because of the diversity of the population today and the fact that nothing has been definitively resolved. It seems as if racism has not been a large problem of late, but it has not gone away completely. Women still complain that wages are not equivalent to their male counterparts pay and so, there is cause for attention to affirmative action programs.
