advocacy group can assist in raising funding for further disease research, promoting acceptance of the disease and its symptoms among society as a whole, and generally increasing the quality of
life of those who suffer from the disease through increasing awareness of how to prevent the diseases most severe complications from arising. Some diseases, such as AIDS, were once thought
to be incurable; an automatic, catastrophic death sentence. However, thanks to the efforts of advocacy groups, AIDS, while it has not yet been cured, is no longer thought of this
way; education, treatment, research, and prevention strategies have become so developed through advocacy that many people who contract the disease tend to live longer, and enjoy a superior quality of
life than they would have just ten or twenty years ago. This is good news, but there are many other diseases which are just as impactful to society that have
not yet received this degree of advocacy and awareness, and as such, treatments and prevention programs are not advancing at the rate of which they are truly capable. One key
example of such a disease is sickle cell disease. This paper will explore the need for an advocacy strategy to promote new and innovative treatments for sickle cell disease, as
well as to increase the quality of life in those who have the disease through the prevention of disease-related complications. This paragraph helps the student demonstrate knowledge of the
actual population of sufferers. Sickle cell disease can take on a variety of forms, and when considering its overall impact upon the population, it is necessary to understand each of
