full page advertisement in the February 20, 2001 issue of Family Circle. Bound into the magazine directly in front of the ad is a tear-out response card, a postcard
for the consumer to fill out and return to yet a third company. The ad begins, "Thanks to new ways for effectively managing
ADHD," and it features a photograph of a family gathered around a young boy looking directly into the camera but with books open in front of him. Mother, Father
and little sister are all smiling broadly while looking at their son and brother. Criticism of the Advertisement
The ad is on the right page of the open magazine, but there is little text. What text is present is in six-point type and contained
in a single vertical column on the extreme left edge of the page. None is obliterated in the binding, but there is virtually no margin or gutter space.
Any individual truly interested in reading the information promised by the presence of type is forced to work for it. S/he must forcibly spread the magazine to a more
open position than has been intended. The response card bound into the magazine in front of the ad clearly is attached to the
ad. They both bear the same heading banner and photograph, and they are both printed on an orangy background clearly linking the two as belonging together.
