contracts must be clearly created and specificities are necessary. Burnett (1998) explains that some early deals would embrace contracts that were "careless, even reckless" (p.1). Today, there is much attention
to detail, but the risks of doing business abroad are still there. Obviously, there is more room for mistakes when taking jobs offshore. Another problem goes to ethics. Is it
ethical to ship jobs overseas? When Ross Perot ran for president he referred to a giant sucking sound to signify what it would be like when jobs were given to
Mexicans. In fact, some American manufacturing plants have had rough times. The employees who were excessed were on unemployment and had a difficult time finding new careers. Many of the
people in the types of jobs that go overseas feel lost when the company closes and in some cities, the towns become ghost-like because the majority of that small
citys economy was attached to one large business that folded. Of course, outsourcing is becoming more and more popular. Greaver (1999) writes that "todays employees are better trained and can
adjust well" (p.xiv). Obviously, the multinational firm in general has an advantage in that it is already in the global arena. A strictly American company shipping jobs overseas is much
more likely to be criticized. Still, Kripalani, Einhorn & Magnusson (2003) report that many Americans are upset about the loss of jobs to foreign agencies. Hence, American politicians are trying
to pass laws to limit the number of technical and white collar positions that can be sent to other countries (Kripalani, Einhorn & Magnusson, 2003). Another point made by authors
