inaccurate. Their backgrounds, culture, language may all act as obstacles to learning new things. They know things to be true based on their backgrounds. Adult educators must have the skills
to unstuck their minds to allow them to grow and develop. Theorists have consistently commented on the need for experiential learning in adult education. Many also comment that adult learners
are self-directed, capable of determining their own goals and taking responsibility for their own learning. Some theorists argue that this is not always the case. It may depend on why
the adult is taking a class. For instance, does the individual have to take the class for their job or as part of a full-fledged college program? Or, is the
individual taking the class just because they want to learn more about that subject area? In the first case, the person might not be as self-directed as the second person.
One thing most theorists do agree on is that learning has the potential to transform adults. Learning can indeed be a transformative experience when the conditions are such that
