development. Literacy and language proficiency skill development have also become key to the progression of adult learning in adult education models. In order to meet the changing needs
of adult learners, technology-based instruction and access models have been created to improve participation. Though distance learning has led to controversies around socioeconomic gaps and the ability to adults
to participate, it continues to drive adult learning models. This research paper considers the history of adult learning, its progress since the early 20th century, and the major shifts
in recent years that have fueled on-line learning opportunities. Introduction Adult education is an expanding field that focuses on the needs of an increasing multicultural adult learner
population and the application of a variety of different instructional methods and tools. Because of the challenges specific to adult learner populations, this is a fascinating field. The fields
requires an understanding of the use of technology, the application of adult learning theory, and the creation of approaches that ensure that adults of varying language proficiency are factored into
