studies and a plethora of research indicate that the differences are indeed striking. Because of this, adult adoptees face struggles in their lives which are unique to their situation,
and for reasons which are an integral part of their circumstance. Understanding these problems and struggles which they face helps to highlight the differences between adult adoptees and adults
who have been raised by their biological parents. Adult Adoptees Adoption actually started in ancient Rome, when statesmen adopted eligible
young men as successors (Wienecke, 2003). As time passed, adoption changed and often the motivation was to provide more labor for a family in order to help the family
survive (Wienecke, 2003). But as adoption has changed further to become what it is today, secrecy has entered into the equation, often creating very complex issues for adoptees to
face in their lifetimes (Wienecke, 2003). It would seem perhaps that once a child was adopted, the struggles would
stop there, but that is definitely not the case (Issues Facing Adult Adoptees, 2003). The truth is that many adoptees struggle with a plethora of issues - often throughout
the course of their entire lives (Issues Facing Adult Adoptees, 2003). One of the main issues which many adult adoptees have to deal with is that of self-esteem (Issues
Facing Adult Adoptees, 2003). Take for instance the example of Steve Harris, who is a 39 year old program director at a Dallas radio station (Issues Facing Adult Adoptees,
2003). Although he was adopted as an infant, Harris has had a very difficult time dealing with his low self-esteem throughout his entire life (Issues Facing Adult Adoptees, 2003).
