However, statistics also show that less than 32 percent of surveyed teachers respond that they regularly integrate the use of technological resources into their classroom instruction (NCES, 2000). Since 2000, this statistic has improved somewhat, but there is still a long way to go. According to the 2005 "Teachers Talk Tech" survey, the number of teachers who perceive their level of computer skill as advanced tripled-from just 6 percent in 2004 to 17.5 percent in 2005 (Rother, 2005). The fact that less than 20 percent of Americas teachers feel that they have a high degree of expertise with computers and technology gives rise to the question of what factors constitute the root causes of this problem, as by determining the nature of the problem, it can then be addressed more effectively. Does age, years of experience teaching, or the degree of familiarity that the teacher has with technology, that is, the amount of personal computer experience, constitute influences that should be addressed in regards to answering this question? Age and experience teaching Reilly (2003) argues that the idea that older, experienced teachers are slower to adopt technology has been repeated so frequently that it is simply accepted as a maxim. However, data from the third annual "Teachers Talk Tech" survey, which was taken in 2005 by Quality Education Data, the results showed that established, older teachers indicated no "innate resistance to classroom technology" (Reilly, 2003).
