in Tyranny" offers a bit more than what its name suggests; for the most part it is a biographical explanation of tyranny that helps us to understand Hitlers personality and
tyrannical actions based upon his own background, environment, and the sociopolitical scheme of pre-World War II Germany. Some of the most interesting aspects worthy of
summary include the Nazi ruthlessness was portrayed by Bullock as being so vividly unique. Hitlers career and life, was based on his amazing belief in himself as a politician
supported by fate, on his identification of his destiny with that of Germany. In fact, Hitlers own view of the world was interestingly unique. Every people that stood in
the way of the German cause (which was the same cause as his own) must be destroyed, above all the Jews. The British, if they heeded his concepts for peace,
might be worthy of running the empire they had accumulated. The Americans were a mixed-up plutocracy of little account, despite the armies that they had sent to Europe in
1918. The Slavs were a potential reservoir of labor power formerly organized by Germans, and since 1917 by Jewish Bolsheviks who had to be destroyed. Establishing
cruelty in Germany required a revolution in values. Evidently, it came about in the face of a long-term formal commitment to legal procedures and guarantees, if not to a democratic
culture. The book evidences that Hitler knew how to mobilize the resentments of enough of the electorate to win the authority to force this revolution of values -- and increasingly
