greatly between racial/ethnic groups: 26.0 percent of American Indian or Alaska Native youths use drugs; 11.1 percent of White youth; 10.2 percent of Hispanic youngsters; 9.3 percent of Black youth;
6.0 percent for Asians and 12.2 percent for adolescents reporting more than one race (SAMHSA, 2005). Among youth ages 12 and 13, 3.8 percent used illicit drugs in 2004 (SAMHSA,

used marijuana; among 14 and 15 year olds, 7.3 percent used marijuana, 4.1 percent used prescription drugs non-medically and 1.6 percent used inhalants; among 16 and 17 year old youth,
14.5 percent used marijuana, 5.1 percent used prescription drugs non-medically, 1.7 percent used hallucinogens, 1.1 percent used cocaine and 0.9 percent used inhalants (SAMHSA, 2005). Overall, 10.6 percent of the
entire population of youth between the ages of 12 and 17 used illicit drugs in 2004 (SAMHSA, 2005). This represents a slight decrease over 2003 when the rate was 11.2
percent (SAMHSA, 2005). T Marijuana is the most common drug used by youth (SAMHSA, 2005). The number of youth using this drug daily or almost daily totaled 342,000 and the
