2 The ability to tackle obesity becomes harder as the individual ages, therefore tackling obesity in this young age group is important and understanding some of the influences
that are relevant in modern life is important. For example, the problem of childhood obesity is not limited to the physical effect discussed; obesity itself can become a barrier to
a healthy lifestyle, limiting access and motivation to usual childhood activities and create a long term psychological impact (Puhl et al, 2007). It is also worth noting that obesity has
been shown to be worse in low income families (Kelly and Paterson, 2007). Slide 3 A plan to help improve the levels of obesity and their effects
needs to be based on realistic goals, with a framework that promotes long term health, and the intervention needs to be based on two main premises; the eating of a
healthy diet, including ensuring that children understand what is meant by a healthy diet and how they can influence it. This may deal with a ranger of issues, from heating
take away food and snacks though to the preparation of food in the home. However knowledge alone is not enough, there also need to be the skills, including cooking skills,
the ability to design menus, and the approaches taught also need to be available for those on low income, helping with the way this can be undertaken on a low
budget, such as ongoing support with many suggestions and where possible there may be the formation of food cooperatives. Slide 4 As well as tackling the
