United States and other western countries. Since body dissatisfaction and cognitive appraisals of ones body, such as weight perception, are considered to be culturally mediated, recent investigations have compared
the level of body dissatisfaction as well as its relationship to disordered eating, across different ethnic and cultural groups" (Mukai et al 751). Binge eating disorder does not play
gender favorites; while adolescent girls are recognized more often as suffering from the problem, this degree is only minimal to the ratio of three to two. It has been
determined that overweight children who become obese adults establish themselves as such because of binge eating (Anonymous binge.htm). What exactly motivates adolescents to
lose control over their food consumption is an issue that is still not fully understood by the medical community. What is known about those who suffer from binge eating
disorder, however, is enough to establish a commonsensical theory: depression, sadness, boredom, anger, anxiety and "other negative emotions can trigger a binge episode" (Anonymous binge.htm). An impulsive personality is
also associated with adolescents who have been diagnosed as having binge eating disorder. Unquestionably psychologically related, other mental conditions, such as chemical and metabolic imbalances, can stimulate binge eating,
as well. "While not as prevalent as in the United States, the cases of both clinical and subclinical forms of eating disorders in young women have drastically increased in
