Sixteen year old Otis Stallworth, an African-American with a complexity of psychological problems, has been a part of the Departments case load since the time he
was six years old. Stallworths parents are unmarried and his father has been in and out of prison for the last thirteen years. Stallworth has four siblings, each
of the children have different mothers. He is the youngest of the children with one brother only one year older than him, another four years older than him, one
eighteen years of age, and the other brother age twenty-one. It is no surprise that Stallworth does not have a close relationship with his father. Unfortunately the relationship
with his mother is equally troubled. The adolescent has, in fact, suffered significant abuse at the hands of both parents. Although Stallworth is sixteen years old and is
of average intelligence he has not progressed beyond the eighth grade. Up until two month ago Stallworth lived, despite their rocky relationship, with his mother. Stallworth is presently
in a residential juvenile justice program for grand theft. The possibility of his being released from this program is tenuous at best.
The purpose of this paper is to assess the overall psychological functioning and the severity of the problems confronting this juvenile and to summarize specific personality assets and deficits.
In addition, this paper will demonstrate the relationship between strengths and weaknesses, problems and presenting coping methods. Describe other variables contributing to the development and maintenance of the problem,
including physiological, family and sociocultural variables, and describe the vicious cycle or cycles in which the adolescent (and family, as relevant) are caught. Deary, Peter, Austin, and Gibson, 1998)
