2009). Their bodies produce excess oil which often leads to acne. The brain is still developing during these years. Scientists have found that the connections between neurons that affect emotional,
mental, and physical abilities are not complete until years later (Morgan & Huebner, 2009). The many changes lead to teenagers needing more sleep and due to growth spurts, teenagers may
be clumsy. They can become overly sensitive about their growth. They may even feel uncomfortable about showing affection to the opposite sex, including their parents. Boys who used to hug
their moms before bed may now just give a wave of the hand when leaving the room. Adolescents are in Stage 5 of Eriksons psychosocial-developmental stages. The crisis to be
resolved at this time is self-identity versus role confusion. They try on different roles, values, attitudes, and behaviors and they tend to distance themselves from their parents (Boeree, 2006). Freuds
idea was that adolescents are trying to learn how to establish relationships with the opposite sex. 2. Issues Facing Adolescents Not all adolescents face the same challenges but
among those challenges could be racism, classism, sexism, adultism, and cultural oppression. Any of these can have devastating effects on an adolescents growth and development. They become so overwhelmed with
these types of discrimination that they cannot concentrate on anything else. One of the most serious threats to adolescents today is bullying. The worst of this is that the bully
