time, I have pursued educational opportunities that would help me achieve that goal. I graduated from Abilene Christian University with a BS degree in Biology and minors in Chemistry
and Business. My academic performance is above average, with a 2.99 GPA, but my need to balance academics with work and family have hindered my opportunities in terms of
achieving entrance into a post-graduate dentistry program. I am currently enrolled at Texas A&M, working on post-baccalaureate studies as a foundation for entrance in a dentistry program.
In the past, both social and economic factors have hindered my academic performance. As a youth, I began working to help my family
monetarily when I was 13 years old, and had to put aside money to pay for my own education. I started my own business, a parking lot striping service,
to pay for my undergraduate studies, and Found it difficult to balance work, participation in college sports, and my education. My home responsibilities, including helping my family care for my
ailing grandfather, resulted in lower grades and poor overall performance on the DAT, which led to my not being accepted at Baylor School of Dentistry when I first applied.
Achieving a high level of academic performance has always been challenging. I attended an economically poor public high school; more
than a third of the school population was considered at-risk and of low socio economic households. The lack of resources, technology, and diversity of programming at my high school
