My clinical, volunteer and community services activities have included a variety of different opportunities to serve others and learn about non-profit programs. Each of these opportunities served a different
population, had a different core directive, and sought different services from volunteers. My work as a Jr. Baseball Camp volunteer gave me the opportunity to work with elementary school
children in an active environment. The organization was developed to provide a camp environment that focused on baseball fundamentals and fostering a team approach. This was one of
my earliest volunteer experiences and gave me the chance to understand how volunteerism can influence others, who it can change the function of non-profit organizations and make a change for
individual children. Similarly, my work at Our Fathers House as a volunteer sharing my time with abused children was another example of volunteerism influencing the lives of others.
As a driver for Meals on Wheels, I provided elderly shut-ins with nutritious meals, again gaining insight into the process of a non-profit organization while also making direct contact with
those the organization serves. In this organization, drivers and those who provide meals may be the only contact that shut-ins get in the course of a day, and this
volunteer work showed me the importance of community involvement for the elderly. Two of my volunteer activities were directly related to
providing dental services. I volunteered for Dr. William Birdwell in his dental office, assisting when needed in order to provide support for the activities of the dentist. I
