"20 years researching and writing reports professionally," and I have particularly enjoyed researching environmental law. Fascinating Changes I am one of the fortunate
ones well versed in the methods of library research when it began with a perusal of the Readers Guide, and then went where it would through a variety of books
and journals, either narrowly directed or free-flowing, allowed to take on a life of its own. In those days the quality of the
physical library was a crucial issue. The ultimate quality of the research at hand was dependent on the quality of the materials available in the immediate geographical area.
This is no longer the case, of course. Electronic databases provide a wealth of information from myriad sources much more numerous than most libraries could manage in years past
(Crowley, 2004). Academic and business research is both simpler and more complex than at any other time, and it offers a greater breadth of possibilities than reasonably could be
expected in years past (Neyer, 2003). The digital era does not affect only the availability of individual journal articles offered by subscription databases,
it also has changed the methods by which many libraries manage interlibrary loans. Poynder (2004) describes the system that Swarthmore College uses to expand the physical books and journals
