Within the District of Columbia and the nations capital of Washington, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids (HOPWA) funds to
one grantee, the local Department of Health. The goal of the local organization is "To devise long-term, comprehensive strategies for meeting the housing needs of persons with HIV/AIDS or
related diseases and their families" (Department of Health Grant Programs, n.d.). The local contact for this specific program is Debra Rowe; in the most recent year reported at the
local organizations website it received $11.4 million from HUD to fund its local HOPWA program. The purpose here is to discuss administration of the program in the local area
of Washington, D.C. The Local Area HUD distributes funds to local agencies and initiatives focusing on providing housing assistance to individuals with AIDS.
