basic soap and water; however, there were certain things that required a stronger germ-controlling solution of bleach to prevent the spread of germs. Disinfecting such items as non-cloth toys,
bathrooms and diaper-changing areas with bleach solution is paramount to maintaining control over germs and disease (All Family Resources. 1999). Toys present a particularly significant challenge to keep germ-free inasmuch
as toddlers and infants constantly put them in their mouths; when these toys are transferred to other children, the germs from the previous child follow right with them, leaving them
vulnerable to infectious germs. The only sure way to maintain control over toy-related germ spreading is to disinfect each toy before the next child uses it. This may
seem an ominous task given the already busy day of a caretaker, however, the extra effort is well worth the alternative of group germ spreading. A simple rule to
follow is for only those toys that are washable to be used at the facility (All Family Resources. 1999). The most effective solution for disinfecting counters, bathrooms and diaper areas
is to mix one tablespoon of bleach with one quart of cool water; if a larger quantity is needed, combine one-quarter cup bleach with one of gallon water. Toy
disinfecting does not require this strong an application, with 1 tablespoon per one gallon of water being a sufficient - and safe - mixture. Solution should be mixed fresh
