part of a larger process, that can inform classroom management, curriculum design, and even create a better understanding of the links that exist among administrators, educators, parents and students.
Increasingly, the focus on AR in educational research has extended from the belief that research can be designed to empower the participants and determine methods for improving educational experiences (Hopkins,
1993). One of the central problems with educational research in general is that it can be difficult to determine how specific quantitative studies should inform
changes. Often times, studies reflect specific concerns about the nature of testing, the views of academic performance, or the use of specific educational methods (See Bracey, 2002; Hansford and
Hattie, 1982). Commonly, though, the educational research methods utilized do not take into consideration the specific roles of the individual players or the way in which the educational process
could be enhanced by integrating an awareness of the research process. Mills (2002), Hopkins (1993) and Kemmis & McTaggart (1990), among others, have maintained that Action Research (AR) should be
utilized more readily in the educational environment because of the benefits of an integrated approach. AR not only outlines a research process, but also defines a qualitative, reflective and
experiential approach to understanding educational problems (Hopkins, 1993). AR, then, can contribute to a practical understanding of problems that are facing individuals in the classroom setting, from the students
