(TV Guide, 2008). Despite this there appears to be a lesser commitment by relevant bodies to reducing the occurrence of this problem when compared with other afflictions. Enfield is
as guilty as many other health authorities in this respect. The development of policies to help reduce obesity is needed, One group of individuals are often over looked in this
respect, they are the 18 - 25 year olds, no longer at school many are not yet suffering the ill effect of obesity so do not come into contact with
medical staff on a regular basis. They are slipping though the cracks. Therefore targeting this group will help to make up for current policy shortfalls as well as benefit the
future of the individuals and the Enfield PCT. One of the problems has been funding and perception of obesity. Obesity is
often interpreted as a self inflicted condition and a large number of financial pressures placed on a public funded service the bias of healthcare by primary healthcare givers to the
conditions which require more immediate and urgent treatment is understandable (McPake, 2002) and in some cases may be argued as required in order to meet other legal obligations (Montgomery, 2003).
However, there is a problem with this approach. The failure to deal with the problem of obesity is creating future problems due to the long term health implications (Kelly and
