Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 8 page report discusses the phenomena of acid
raid. It has been a research topic for, literally, more than a
century and therefore offers a wide variety of information
sources for the student to choose between in presenting his or
her argument about acid rain. That variety of sources allows any
person researching the topic to discover conflicting and
contrasting opinions and, in the process, reach their own
conclusions. “Acidic deposition,” or acid rain as it is commonly
known, occurs when emissions of sulfur dioxide and oxides of
nitrogen react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen, and oxidants
to form various acidic compounds. This mixture forms a mild
solution of sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Sunlight increases the
rate of most of these reactions. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

relying upon the very resources that can best "sustain" life on Earth. Human beings must learn to take full advantage of the virtually inexhaustible solar energy of sunlight, wind,
flowing water, renewable wood, hydrogen gas produced by using solar energy to decompose water, and heat from the earths interior. On the relatively short time scale in which human
beings have existed on the planet, this brief "fossil-fuel age" ultimately, and inarguably, unsustainable. The phenomenon of acid rain serves as a valuable discussion topic in terms of the many
observations that have been made about it, its causes, and its long-term impact. It has been a research topic for, literally, more than a century and therefore offers a wide
variety of information sources for the student to choose between in presenting his or her argument about acid rain. That variety of sources allows any person researching the topic to
discover conflicting and contrasting opinions and, in the process, reach their own conclusions. The student doing this research should understand that the interpretation of data regarding a volatile topic can
always be manipulated to support one side over another. However, in order to present a convincing argument about the students own point of view, he or she will want to
offer both sides of a debate and then show the reader why they have made the choice they have regarding their own opinion. Acid Rain Human habitation and the human
predilection toward thinking that the Earths resources are there solely for human use and exploitation, has led to one of the most unnerving of the pollution damages to the planet
- acid rain. The student researching this topic should be well-aware of the fact that scientists have conclusively determined that acid rain is directly related to the air pollution
