it is typically placed on a shelf and forgotten, left to gather dust. On the other hand, it a trophy is achieved with considerable effort and hard work, it is
kept on the mantle and shined daily, providing a symbol to the individual and a pattern for how life should be lived, that is, to never give up and
accept that a goal is impossible. Two episodes in my life illustrate this point. In my junior of high school, I contracted typhoid fever, and subsequently missed my final
exams. Due to this factor, my teachers failed me. School administrators supported this decision and I have to repeat my junior year. I was depressed to be a year behind,
and not studying with my classmates. It also rankled me as it seemed unjust, as I was extremely ill during the exam week and could not get of bed, much
less attempt anything else. Also, I was worried that having to repeat my junior year would affect my chances of getting into a good university. However, I put my
resentment aside and applied myself to my studies, and came in first in my class. Furthermore, as I maintained excellent grades throughout the remainder of my high school career, I
was accepted by list the name of your university. This constituted the first instance in my life in which I learned the benefit of not giving up by giving in
to despair or defeat when life presents difficulties and obstacles. The second time was just last year. I had signed up to be in a local swimming competition. Three
