is certainly no stranger to such realities and makes a point of illustrating the difficulties and unavoidable realities of both sides of the cultures which clash. In his novel "No
Longer at Ease" we have a story that takes us to the next generation of Nigerians, the previous generation having been seen in the novel "Things Fall Apart." The following
paper summarizes and analyzes the novel in relationship to the clash of cultures. Summary and Analysis The primary character of this novel is Obi Okonkwo, who is the grandson
of the man in "Things Fall Apart." With Obi we see a young Nigerian man who has been educated in England and as such has a very different perspective than
his grandfather did, and a very different perspective than his native "brothers." Obi is a man who, in many ways, is incapable of seeing how the different cultures will always
clash. He is an idealist and an idealist who is all but incapable of understanding why he is regarded as less than a man due to his heritage. This
simple foundation offers the reader and incredible foundation from which to witness the story for the primary character is not really on one side or the other. He is therefore
an unbiased observer in many ways. We see him confused and perhaps even astounded that racial and cultural clashes control the destinies of so many people. One of the most
important people he sees and interacts with, as it relates to the cultural clashes and cultural destinies is the woman he loves. His idealism, which is founded on very progressive
European thought that he has learned and been essentially raised with, allows him to believe that he could marry Clara. However she is from a lesser caste than he is
