depicts the events leading up to, and involving, the invasion of Normandy and D-Day. As one author notes, "The turning point in WWII, indeed, some would say in human history, came on June 6, 1944 when the Allied Forces, under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower, invaded Nazi occupied France at Normandy Beach. It was the largest invasion force of men, ships and materiel ever assembled and it marked a crucial moment in the war" (The Longest Day). This particular author, or film critic, argues that this particular film is a very powerful and accurate illustration of what happened in Normandy that longest day. Two other critics argue the same, one who authors for "Teaching with Movies," and one who writes for "History Television." These authors argue that the film was produced much like a battle itself, that it is a human film that depicts the men who were there in a very realistic manner, and that the film is a very good introduction to one who wishes to know more about the Normandy invasion. The following paper examines these reviews as they involve the accuracy of the film in it historical portrayal of the longest day. The Longest Day AS mentioned, one author argues that this film was produced in much the way a battle is in terms of strategy and planning, thus making it a very intense and powerful film. This author notes, "Zanuck approached the project like a military campaign, marshalling his forces and money to produce the ultimate World War Two epic. He used an army of stars, a veritable whos who of both Hollywood and the European film industry to provide an omniscient, generals eye view of the unfolding battles from both sides of the front lines" (The Longest Day).
