that the Nottinghamshire Police department is huge, and is in fact "the fifteenth largest force area in England and Wales" (Evans, 2003). The population in Nottinghamshire is greater than one
million and may be thought of as consisting of four distinct areas, which is the City of Nottingham in the south, Mansfield and Ashfield located in the west, and
Worksop to the North (2003). Finally, Newark is located in the East (2003). The region boasts a good transportation program as well as good access to both eastern and
western districts (2003). One can see that this large area needs a sufficient and competent police force. While the police force is in relatively good shape, accountability has been problematic.
When accountability is discussed in respect to any occupation, most understand the concept. It means that someone is taking responsibility for their actions. What does police accountability mean? Clearly, it
is the same as for any other occupation except that it is used in a particular sense, especially as it respects this police organization. In Nottinghamshire, accountability is a buzzword
that has come about due to circumstances. Ideas related to morality, as well as community and obligation have made an appearance during the 1990s in a general sense, but critics
say that there is a weakening in respect to community relations (Downing, Stepney & Jordan, 2000). An increased individual accountability in respect to wrongdoing, as well as stronger law
