by K. Von Huben 5/2010 Please Introduction The Army is based on teamwork, and adherence to
well-established procedures. Within that framework is room for individual development and performance, but always within the bounds set by the Seven Army Values. This paper considers security of items like
ID cards, dog tags and weapons, particularly during deployment, and how that relates to the concept of accountability and in turn, to the seven army values. Discussion The seven values
are at the very heart of the Army. They are as follows: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage (Living the Army values). These are all self-explanatory,
but living up to them demands the highest that any person can give. The Army expects its soldiers to embody these values and hold to them, not just when its
convenient or when an inspection is due, but all the time. Although its not listed, accountability is also an important part of this type of value structure. Accountability means
several things: it means taking responsibility for ones own actions; that is, being accountable for ones behavior. It also means being accountable for the welfare of the troops under ones
command, as well as admitting ones mistakes. In a narrower sense, it also means being responsible for the items in ones possession, which brings us to the idea of ID
