respect to the entire kingdom of sentient creatures. Three reasons I believe this are 1) man continues to use animals in laboratory testing
when the experiments are redundant and results are still the same today as they were twenty years ago; 2) man refuses to acknowledge animals are conscious creatures who are wholly
entitled to a life without pain and suffering; and 3) man still forces animals to live in artificial environments in order to satisfy his own entertainment needs.
The first reason illustrates just how much animal cruelty that continues to occur today is because man holds on to the tried and true ways of
day past without having a good reason to do so (Perry, 2007). Cosmetic industries no longer need to test their finished products or individual ingredients on animals because they
have done so over and over again with the same outcome; to continue inflicting the pain, suffering and ultimate death of laboratory animals merely because they can - yet do
not have to in order to yield results - has come under a great deal of public fire over the years with many companies being boycotted for continuing this barbaric
practice. The second reason illustrates how mans self-designated rank as the highest evolved species on the planet has blinded him to the fact
that he, too, is part of the same animal kingdom where dogs, cats and even snails reside. To place himself above all other forms of life - and then
to fall down on his responsibility as protector of the innocent - casts mans ego into a black void of unjustified superiority. Consciousness is not something specific to human
