and the surprisingly similar things they teach. Discussion Each of the three Abrahamic religions differs from the others, of course, but I found that the similarities were what
surprised me the most. As a Christian, I bring that perspective with me to any discussion of religion; our faith is so ingrained in most of us from childhood
that we dont even realize we are arguing from one viewpoint. Without knowing it, we regard other faiths as strange and even "weird"; certainly they cant be considered "real"
religions if they dont teach the same things as Christianity. Because we (I mean all people, no matter what their religion) tend to be certain of our faith,
any debate about religion can easily degenerate into an "Im right, youre wrong"; "No Im right, YOURE wrong" argument. While we cant avoid thinking that our beliefs are the
correct ones, we can guard against this sort of "I have the only real faith" rigidity that characterizes fundamentalism, and creates so many problems. We need to reach out
to one another, not build walls of distrust and prejudice. It is possible to appreciate others faith even as we continue to celebrate our own. When we look objectively
at the other religions, we see that all three believe in the "Word of God" as a direct and personal message to Man from the Divine; we also all believe
that that Word is available to us in written form (Kereszty, 2001). We do not always agree on what the books say, but all three religions claim to have
books that express the "Word of God," and all three texts "partially coincide" (Kereszty, 2001). This in itself is surprising, since we tend to think that each of the
