with a significantly better understanding of the extent to which abortion is wrong, inasmuch as those who compromise their private morality do so in disrespect for the "understanding of universal
duty" (Hosmer, 1995, p. 379). Given the fact that man is a mere mortal, he does not possess the inherent endowment to perform
acts of God. Indeed, it can readily be argued that altering the natural selection of childbirth through abortion is betraying the ethical and moral code by which humans live.
The decision of 1973s Roe v. Wade set an entirely new precedent upon how society would respond to the issue of abortion from that point forward. Described as
"the strongest, and in this sense, most radical Episcopal statement I have ever encountered" (Kelly, 1999, p. 99), religious sects rose up and denounced the decision as "entirely contrary to
the fundamental principles of morality" (p. 99) and called for a constitutional amendment that would ultimately and immediately reverse it. "Then the word of the Lord came unto me,
