Mill argued that "while the rightness or wrongness of an action does not depend upon the agents motive, it does depend entirely upon the intention" (Ridge, 2002, p. 54). If the intention of the action is to protect the rights of the woman and to ensure her continued autonomy in the presence of adverse conditions, the utilitarian perspective can support a pro-choice approach. Virtue is a concept initially defined by Aristotle as relating to the pursuit of the good life, of the life that is morally noteworthy in which the individual balances the needs of the world against his/her own needs. In the case of those supporting pro-choice, it can be said that the decision to limit the number of children that are born into the world through the use of abortion services can be perceived as a morally correct action, because it is in response to the demands of the world.
