decades. While people may possess different opinions about abortion and the morality of the act, it is legal and it is clearly a womans choice, and right. In essence, the
Supreme Court made a very positive decision for the nation in taking the issue into their hands for the most part, rather than leaving it all in the hands of
the states. The following paper examines this reality, and how an abortion is a womans right. Abortion: A Womans Right While many people may argue about the morality
of abortion, the Supreme Court made a very positive social decision when it allowed women the right to choose, and essentially took a great deal of the decision away from
states. While individual states can have varying degrees of legality as it involves abortion, the Supreme Court has made it legal. The fateful event, the ultimate decision, came with
the infamous Roe v Wade. The woman who was the focus of the court case was Norma McCorvey and "She fought for abortion rights 25 years ago" (Norma McCorvey -
Plaintiff in Roe vs. Wade, 2006). Despite the fact she fought for the right, claiming that she "thought" she "wanted to have an abortion with the baby" she was carrying,
she actually never had an abortion, and years later wishes her name were not on the court decision and wishes that abortion were not legal (An Interview with Norma McCorvey,
the "Roe" of Roe vs. Wade, 2006). However, the truth is that it is legal and this position has ultimately saved many lives. Before abortions were legal there
were many illegal abortions, many of which were called back alley abortions. Women would, in short, do whatever was necessary to get an abortion, even though they were not legal.
